How does the live map work?

The live map shows every aircraft broadcasting its position within about 80 km of the map centre, refreshed every few seconds. Tap a plane to see its flight number, airline, route, altitude and aircraft type.

If you share your location, the map centres on you. If you don’t, it uses an approximate position from your connection, or you can search for any city. It is free, needs no account and shows no ads.

The map is a good way to check what just flew over your house. To find out which plane you are actually looking at in the sky, the JetDex app goes further: you point the phone at it.
